Geophysics

Met Surveys provide high quality geophysical surveys and non-intrusive investigations to help provide solutions to a wide variety of engineering and environmental problems. The breadth of experience and expertise within the company helps ensure the client is provided with accurate and relevant information in a timely and cost effective manner. Met Surveys policy of investing in state of the art equipment allows direct savings to be passed onto the client by reducing project mobilisation and turn around times.

The choice of geophysical survey strategy and techniques are site specific but generally Met Surveys recommend a multi-phase approach to site assessment to include:
Geophysics is the study of the physical properties of the earth and as such is a broad discipline with a multitude of techniques and applications.

The near-surface applications of geophysics can be sub-divided into the categories of engineering, environmental and archaeological geophysics although there is often overlap between these categories.
• Desk top study
• Reconnaissance geophysics and utility survey
• Targeted geophysics
• Informed intrusive investigation

Benefiting from our company's land and building expertise, we offer high quality professional positional information and CAD presentation. We believe that the expertise Met Surveys offer in positional surveying combined with geophysical investigation provides clients with an unrivalled service.

Engineering Geophysics

This branch of geophysics relates to the investigation of structures and sub-surface features and materials that are likely to have significant engineering implications. Met Surveys has the resources to benefit engineering projects in the following areas:

• Hazard assessment
• Structural investigations
• Geological investigations
• Resource assessment
• Engineering properties of the ground

Environmental Geophysics

Environmental geophysics is the application of geophysical techniques to investigate shallow sub-surface features and structures that are likely to have significant impact on the surrounding environment. Met Surveys has the capability to provide solutions to the following environmental problems:

• Brownfield characterisation
• Landfill characterisation
• Environmental hazard detection
• Geological applications

Archaeological Geophysics

Archaeological geophysics has been applied in the field for decades, however, this is a relatively new discipline commercially and has come into common usage since the early 1990's when archaeological assessments became part of the planning process. Archaeological geophysics can be used as an evaluation tool to determine the presence or absence of archaeological features. If archaeological features are present then geophysics can be used to reduce the amount of excavation by target trenches or, if used early enough in the design stage of a development, the results of a geophysical survey can be used to reduce the impact of the development on the archaeological remains and hence reduce costs.
